What’s a Medicare Advantage Plan?

Also known as Medicare Part C, these plans are offered by private insurance companies and combine into one plan:

  • Part A (Hospital coverage)
  • Part B (Medical coverage)
  • Often Part D (Prescription drug coverage)

What You Get

  • Coverage for hospital, medical, and often prescription drugs
  • May include extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, fitness, and more
  • Annual out-of-pocket maximum for better financial protection
  • May require using in-network doctors and specialists
  • You may pay a monthly premium in addition to your standard Part B premium

Considering a Medigap or Medicare Advantage Plan?

Original Medicare (Parts A & B) covers a lot—but not everything.

That’s where a Medigap Medicare Supplement policy can help. (Also known as Medigap.) This plan helps cover the out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn’t—like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. These standardized plans are sold by private companies and work alongside Medicare Parts A and B—not in place of them.

A few key points to know:

  • You must have Medicare Parts A & B to buy a Medigap plan.
  • Medigap doesn’t include prescription drug coverage—you’ll need a separate Part D plan for that.
  • You can’t use Medigap with Medicare Advantage. It’s one or the other.
  • The best time to enroll is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period (the 6 months after you enroll in Part B at age 65).

Medigap offers added peace of mind by making your healthcare costs more predictable.
